Xbox considered the possibility of closing Fallout 76 in 2021

Over the past years, we saw many stories of returning to the game industry, when games that were launched in terrible condition for one reason or another and were widely criticized after release, we improved significantly and in subsequent years used considerable success. Fallout 76 is definitely a game that joined this list a couple of years after its failure in 2018, although everything could have developed differently for it.

A recent leak of non -edited court documents in the Microsoft case against the Federal Trade Commission shed light on many previously unknown details. Such information became known that back in 2021, the Xbox Boss Fil Spencer considered the possibility of closing Fallout 76.

In a leaked internal email of 2021, Spencer discusses the possible resolution of Fallout 76 for the PlayStation Now, suggesting that it is open, despite the competition from the Game Pass service, because Fallout 76 is in the stage when it is necessary to attract more players. Spencer also wrote that if Fallout 76 cannot dial 10 million active users per month on all platforms, it would probably be better to close the game.

“In my opinion, the F76 is in an interesting place,” Spencer wrote. “Obviously, the start was difficult. The team is still focused on improving and searching for a larger audience. It seems that we need to either see how it reaches 10 million MAU on all platforms, or decide to abandon it, and if you believe that Psnow will help to gain relevance, then I support ”.

Fallout 76, obviously, continues to receive a constant stream of new content from the moment it is launching, and although it is not known whether it attracts such an amount of active users per month, for which Spencer hoped a couple of years ago, she definitely has a healthy base of players.

Earlier this year, Bethesda reported that since the release of the game has attracted more than 15 million players.
